Cheltenham Town's club captain joined the Robins in 2002 and has now become one of the most popular players in the squad.
A hard working midfielder with an eye for a pass and the ability to get into goal scoring positions, John began his career as a trainee at Nottingham Forest. He joined Lincoln City on loan on transfer deadline day in 1998 and played for the final few games of that season as the Red Imps gained promotion to Division Two.
He spent the next three seasons as an ever-present in the Lincoln team and was made team captain at the start of the 2000-01 season.
He made the move to Cheltenham Town in March 2002 and immediately helped his team to win the old Division Three play-off final with one of the goals at the Millennium Stadium.
Despite the disappointment of relegation the following season John's influence continued to grow. He won the players player of the year award in 2002-03 and was appointed club captain in 2003.
His efforts throughout the 2005-2006 promotion campaign were monumental and he led by example throughout the season including another Cardiff play-off final. He also put in a man of the match display against Newcaslte United in the FA Cup fourth round in front of the BBC TV cameras.
In 2006-2007 he drove the midfield forward towards League One survival and the club management were delighted to secure him on a new three year contract in the summer of 2007.
2007-2008 was a frustrating season as John manged to rack up only 11 first team starts and a persistent heel injury forced him to watch from the side lines.
He underwent further corrective surgery at the end of the season and hopes to be back in first team action early in the new season.
